WHAT IS THE MAYOR'S OPEN SPACE TASK FORCE? The Mayor's Open Space Task Force is a 12-month long multi-agency, multi-stakeholder initiative that will promote the economic, environmental, and health benefits of open space through supportive open space policies; coordinate city and community resources; create strategies to secure funding for acquisition, development, renovation, and maintenance of open space in every neighborhood. Create a consensus vision and an action plan for open space in the 21st century Over 12 months, the Open Space Task Force will study and propose solutions to key challenges confronting open space acquisition, development, and maintenance. The Key Outcome for the Open Space Task Force will be an Open Space Action Plan. The Plan will provide a needed framework for San Francisco to achieve excellent and sustainable open space in the 21st Century. The Open Space Action Plan will be comprised of the following elements: Comprehensive Inventory and GIS Mapping of Open Space • Create a shared data platform of all agencies essential to developing an Open Space Plan Policy Review and Proposals • Review other city policies that impact open space and propose new policies that match our vision Financial Strategies for Park Development and Maintenance • Develop a comprehensive package of fi nancial strategies for capital and maintenance needs Multi-stakeholder Coordinating Committee • Ensure funding for the creation of an Open Space Plan in 2009 • Establish an ongoing forum to promote city coordination and public engagement in open space and recreation planning and implementation • Develop strategies and ensure diligence in the application of policies that acquire and enhance open space in the City
