Open Space 2100 is an initiative to develop a community-based open space vision, plan, and policies for San Francisco. This initiative will complement San Francisco's predicited growth and density by promoting an exceptional quality of life and healthy lifestyle. A successful initiative will both improve the environment and strenghten our communities. Open Space 2100 will guide and inform decision-making about open space acquisition, development, funding, and management. It will ensure that open space continues to enhance the environmental, social, and economic well-being of our city. For more information on the initiative, visit http://www.openspacesf.org.
The 24-month process will include: a multi-agency Mayor's Task Force on Open Space; a green lecture series; city-wide public forums and design charrettes; neighborhood-level planning and engagement sessions; and a website to broadcast events, provide information, and gather public input. All of these activities will help educate the public about our options for the future, and build a common vision for the common good.
Open Space 2100 will create a sustainable framework for the implementation of the open space plan at the city-wide and neighborhood levels.
Opportunities to become involved: NPC is currently seeking interns and volunteers to help get the initiative off the ground and running! Interns will work directly with city staff, urban designers, communities, and other non-profits. These unpaid internships are a great opportunity to network and build skills. Our office is located in the Hayes Valley neighborhood and is near City Hall.
