I Love My Park: December 2008

Welcome to "I Love My Park", NPC's monthly column featuring interviews with people all over the city talking about the personal connections they feel to parks in San Francisco. If you are interested in appearing in this column in the future, please email us and tell us all the reasons why you love your park. To read the archive of past columns, click here.

This month: Gareth Maher, photographed with Frankie and Lucy on November 30th.

What is the name of your park?
The 24th and York Street Mini Park.

How often do you visit your park?
I come here about twice a week with my son and daughter.

What do you like about this park?
It's close to our house--we live just around the corner.  The cushioned surfaces are nice and safe for the kids to play on.  I love meeting people from the community who come from all over--and Lucy and Frankie get to communicate with other kids their own age.

What are your favorite activities to do in the park?
The kids love playing in the water sprinkler and on the big round swing, and also sliding down the serpent's back.

What improvements would you make?
The water sprinkler doesn't always work.  Sometimes the park is locked in the morning when it is supposed to be open, and lately it seems to be closing earlier as well.  The tile snake can get very slippery when it gets wet.  But all in all, the new design of the park is fantastic!
