If you love your parks, and are looking for a meaningful and substantive way to make a positive difference, come on out and volunteer with the San Francisco Parks Trust and the Recreation and Park Department!

At this volunteer work day, we’ll prepare an area for planting of new butterfly habitat!  It promises to be an inspiring and fun day in a gorgeous setting!  After our habitat restoration work, we’ll settle down at 1 pm to enjoy our sack lunches and to hear from San Francisco’s premier lepidopterist, Liam O’Brien, about how our volunteer efforts will foster thriving butterfly populations in the park.

Over subsequent months and into next year, we’ll build on the progress begun at our first work day, maintaining and adding more and more butterfly habitat on the slopes and top of Strawberry Hill. We’ll introduce additional native plants to restore the under story of the Oak Woodlands, which cover a portion of Strawberry Hill.

The volunteer land stewardship program on Strawberry Hill will continue on the second Saturday of each month.  2010 schedule: 10 am – 2 pm on Sept. 11, Oct. 9,  Nov. 13, and  Dec 11.

For the inaugural September 11, 2010 event, please RSVP to Julia Brashares at julia@sfpt.org or 415.750.5110 by Tuesday, September 7th.

All instruction and needed tools and equipment will be provided.   Please bring water and a sack lunch and wear closed toed shoes, long pants and layers.
